Quantum Effects Hackathon 2024

From October 7 to 8, 2024, teams with quantum comput­ing exper­tise will compete against each other at the Quantum Effects Hackathon at Messe Stuttgart ICS. From students to postdocs, anyone with the neces­sary quantum comput­ing exper­tise can apply in teams of four to five people.
The rich accom­pa­ny­ing program of Quantum Effects 2024 also includes a two-day Qiskit Hackathon. On October 7 and 8, teams of four to five people will compete against each other at the Inter­na­tional Congress Center of Messe Stuttgart (ICS). The event will be hosted by Messe Stuttgart and IBM Quantum, sponsored by the High-Performance Comput­ing Center Stuttgart (HLRS).

Partic­i­pa­tion in the hackathon

Teams of four to five people can apply to take part. Anyone from students to gradu­ates to postdocs with a relevant background in quantum comput­ing and program­ming are eligi­ble. Experi­ence with Python, Qiskit and quantum comput­ing is not a prereq­ui­site for partic­i­pa­tion, but is an advan­tage.

Evalu­a­tion and award ceremony

An expert jury will evalu­ate the results of the hackathon at the end of the second day and deter­mine which teams have won. Messe Stuttgart will provide cater­ing, drinks and snacks.

The award ceremony will take place on October 9 at 12:30 p.m. during the trade fair on the Black Stage. The first-place team will receive a Quantum Effects Award and three free tickets to Quantum Effects 2025, while the first‑, second- and third-place teams will be invited to visit IBM’s quantum computer in Ehnin­gen or the HLRS comput­ing center. They will also meet with the Senioren der Wirtschaft Böblin­gen and talk about found­ing and build­ing a start-up.

Appli­ca­tion for the hackathon

Teams can apply by sending an e‑mail to quantum-effects@messe-stuttgart.de with the follow­ing subject: “Quantum Effects Hackathon 2024”. The mail must contain the follow­ing information:

  • Name of the team
  • Name of the team captain
  • Name of a team coach (optional)
  • Full name and e‑mail address of all team members
  • Univer­sity educa­tion and degree
  • Experi­ences in quantum comput­ing programming

The team captain and coach will get all further infor­ma­tion and commu­ni­ca­tion regard­ing the hackathon.
